In a world where WWE Superstars often toe the line between heel and babyface, it isn't always easy to tell which direction a current performer is leaning. Their ring attire is often a giveaway sign that something about their personality has changed and in the case of Brock Lesnar, some might call his change subtle.
When Cody Rhodes called out Lesnar on Raw this week, The Beast Incarnate let nearly 20 security guards keep the two men separated. That's a fairly obvious heel move. Two weeks before, when Lesnar attacked Rhodes from behind, that was definitely not the actions of a 'good guy'. Lesnar's heel tendencies can even be traced back to before WrestleMania where he tried to get the early advantage on Omos in a number of instances, only to back away when the tide shifted.
But, this week, Lesnar came to the ring in what might be the most blatant character shift yet: he donned a black trench coat and black cowboy hat. It didn't go unnoticed by the WWE Universe who flocked to social media to comment on the new attire. Typically showing up in a blue jean jacket or vest, the black was a dead giveaway that Lesnar is now a villain. That he was wearing a trench coat only hammered that fact home. For fans wondering if this really means anything, all they have to do is fast-forward later into the show where Trish Stratus came out to cut a heel promo and was also wearing a black hat and black trench coat. This is clearly not a coincidence.
Not Everyone Loves The Lesnar Heel Turn
WWE did shock fans when Lesnar turned. His pop at WrestleMania and then the reaction to Lesnar coming out as Cody's potential tag team partner versus The Bloodline was enormous. That WWE has chosen to scrap those things in order to put Lesnar over as a heel hasn't sat well with some members of the WWE Universe. What do you think? Which version of the Lesnar character do you prefer?
