Gasol began playing basketball at an early age, and it didn’t take long for him to establish himself as a standout player. In 1999, he joined FC Barcelona’s basketball team, where he helped lead them to two Spanish National Cup titles and one Spanish League championship.
His exploits whiles playing for Barcelona caught the attention of NBA scouts, and in 2001, he was drafted third overall by the Memphis Grizzlies.

Pau Gasol helped lead the Lakers to three NBA championships in 2009, 2010, and 2011. During these years, Gasol was named to the All-NBA Second Team twice and was also named to the All-Star Game twice.
In 2014 he joined the Chicago Bulls, where he continued to play at a high level. He was named an All-Star in 2015, and he helped lead the Bulls to the playoffs in both 2015 and 2016.
On Tuesday, March 7, 2023, he made major headlines when the Los Angeles Lakers retired his No. 16 jersey.
