She’s been known as the Queen for well over a decade, but what was Beyoncé first ever song?
Beyoncé’s first song as a solo artist was her debut single, Crazy In Love. This track was released in 2003, and was met with an incredible reception. It took her to the top of the charts instantly.
Read on to learn more about Beyoncé’s musical history.
Queen in the Making
As of 2020, Beyoncé was one the richest musical artists in the world. She had a net worth of around $500 million, and her husband, Jay-Z, around $1 billion. This partnership made her a member of arguably the most powerful couple in music.
She’d had untold success with music, with a string of chart-topping titles and ventures. Her tours had been some of the most well-selling in musical history, and her image and brand was iconic.
It seemed that Beyoncé was destined for greatness and stardom, even from a young age. She’d always been focused on performing and creativity, from as young as eight years old. Just before 1990, Beyoncé and her friends held a successful audition for a new female entertainment group.
In this group, she and her friends rapped, sang and danced together, until being discovered by a California R&B producer. This small group of friends would ultimately become known as Destiny’s Child. By 1997, the group released their first studio track, cementing them as a legitimate group.
As a group, they found considerable success. They topped the charts on numerous occasions, performed songs for movies, and even appeared in some themselves. However, after a relatively short stint together, they decided to break up in 2001 and pursue solo careers.
Out on her Own
After Destiny’s Child split, it was without a doubt Beyoncé who found the most success. Her solo debut was incredibly successful, with her first song Crazy in Love hitting number one instantly. This was her debut single, and would remain iconic for years after.
You can see the video for this debut single on YouTube. This track and video featured Beyoncé’s then boyfriend (now husband) Jay-Z.
In 2003, Beyoncé revealed her first solo album, Dangerously in Love. Once again, this release topped the charts and by 2020 had sold over 11 million copies worldwide. This success would continue to rise exponentially, with Beyoncé securing awards and accolades as fast as anyone could.
Just seventeen years after her solo breakout single, Beyoncé had been showered with awards and nominations. She had won almost two-dozen Grammy awards, putting her in the all-time top ten. Not only that, but she’d won or been nominated for hundreds of other awards worldwide.
Away from the Music
Beyoncé didn’t rely solely on her musical prowess for success. The self-proclaimed independent woman also leant on shrewd business acumen and investment for monetary gains. By the time she had amassed a half a billion dollar fortune, she was a long way from Crazy in Love.
Outside of music, Beyoncé was an acclaimed philanthropist. She’d worked extensively for and with causes and organizations she believed in. As an example, Beyoncé made a sizable donation to the Survivor Foundation, a charity supporting victims of Hurricane Katrina.
As time went on, these endeavours expanded. Beyoncé would go on to become an ambassador and spokesperson for causes such as World Humanitarian Day, and gun control laws. She supported numerous charities, ultimately earning her the “Most Charitable Celebrity of the Year” award in 2017.
One of Beyoncé’s most iconic ventures is her partnership with Adidas. Her ‘Ivy Park’ sportswear line is made and marketed by this company, and has seen remarkable success since its launch in 2016. There’s a post on Instagram by Beyoncé that shows one of her many advertisements for this brand.
