Tyrone E. Whitley Metropolitan Funeral

Tyrone E. Whitley began this life on December 13, 1947 in Portsmouth, VA. He was the third of six children born to the late Arlethia and Arthur Whitley.  He was educated in the Portsmouth School System and graduated from I.C. Norcom High School, Class of 1967.  

In 1969, Tyrone enlisted in the US Army and was a Vietnam Veteran where he received his Purple Heart in 1970. Following his distinguished military career, he continued his education at Norfolk State University from where he received a BS in Business Administration, Class of 1977.  While attending Norfolk State University, Tyrone worked for the United States Postal Service, retiring in 2001 after 30 years of service.

Tyrone was a proud member of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. He was initiated in Virginia Beach, VA by the Gamma XI Chapter in 1979. 

Tyrone enjoyed a wide variety of interests, he would often be found on a golf course and was a member of the Baker Senior Golfers Club. He had a passion for scouting for lawn mowers to collect, repair and sell. He was an ardent fan of the Washington Commanders football team. Tyrone loved to dress to impress. Everyone recognized that he was a sharp dresser!

Tyrone was a faithful member of the Greater Mt. Zion Baptist Church for nearly 15 years.  He loved the lord and always encouraged others to study God’s word.

Tyrone was predeceased by his daughter, Deidra, parents Arthur and Arlethia, his sisters Helen, Barbara, Gloria, and Arlethia.  He is survived by wife Veronica Whitley, his daughters Arnita Whitley and Regis Butler, grandson Amir Whitley, sister Beverly Kelley and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
