Radric Davis, better known by his stage name, Gucci Mane, is one of hip-hop’s most eccentric artists.  The Alabama native has released six studio albums and has had several moderately successful singles.  Gucci’s lyrical content also discusses his large collection of diamond jewelry, and Gucci has coined the phrase “burr,” to show just how cold all of his “ice” keeps him. Unfortunately; however, Gucci Mane’s career has never been focused soley on music.  Over the years, he has endured several personal and legal struggles that have often taken away from his musical accomplishments.  Gucci Mane never shies away from controversy and he has often openly feuded with fellow artists. His lack of self control has even caused him to lash out via Twitter, allowing his more than two million followers to be invited into his thoughts.

In the spring of 2013, Gucci Mane went on a Twitter rant that was suggested that his former manager, Deb Antney, mother of rapper Waka Flocka Flame, had secretly stolen money from some of her artists, including Gucci’s frequent collaborator OJ da Juiceman.  Gucci and other members of 1017 Brick Squad Records, the label that was founded by the mane himself, continued to trade tweets and insults as Gucci threatened to drop his main artists from the label. The argument eventually escalated to a series of insults that Gucci directed towards some of hip hop’s biggest names, including Nicki Minaj and Drake – two artists who he had worked with in the past.

During the argument, Gucci referred to Drake as “a true male groupie.”  He also insinuated that he and his then label-mate, Waka Flocka Flame, had been intimate with female rap star, Nicki Minaj – to which Nicki responded “May God strike me dead if I ever had sex wit that man #ugliness…He’s sick and in dire need of rehab. #Love”  Fans quickly weighed in on the incident, some saying that Gucci’s random outburst (along with the fact that he had an ice cream cone tattooed on his face) indicated that he may be in need of some sort of therapy and/or rehab program.

Oddly, after Gucci’s now infamous rant, his “brother” @youngthrowback tweeted: “Eh this gucci brother sum1 hack brah twitter. Yall try sabotage brah. Dat messed up let gucci b. GOD kno d truth. Hackers.” However, the internet wasn’t convinced that Gucci’s account had been hacked, and some even believed that @youngthrowback’s tweet had actually been composed by Gucci.

Unfortunately, Gucci’s odd Twitter rant was not an isolated incident and he has had quite a few other social media meltdowns, and his off-the-wall behavior isn’t just limited to the internet.  Gucci’s latest run in the the law has resulted in a two year prison sentence after he plead guilty to “possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.”  Although someone is still posting tweets from his account while he is incarcerated,  Gucci’s usual crazy tweets have gone on hiatus.  While many of Gucci’s fans don’t support his erratic behavior, and hope that his time in prison will provide him with the help that he so desperately needs, they have continued to support the artist.

In October 2014, Gucci penned a heartfelt letter from behind bars, letting his fans know that he was doing well and focused on staying sober. He wrote: “My idea is to take my career to the next level. I am planning to take my music to a higher level and use the attention and influence to sell movies, books, clothing and be a living testimony to all people showing that you can start from humble beginnings and transcend to something greater. It feels great to see my plan take root and begin to blossom even though I’m physically incarcerated but spiritually and mentally I’m free as ever. I enjoy working out molding my body and I look forward to changing my diet for the better because I realize to get to the status I crave I must make a life-change which is permanent not a quick-fix.”

If what Gucci Mane said in his letter is true, the world can expect a new and improved Gucci when he is released from prison in 2016.  While a sober and more tame Gucci Mane may sound like less fun, it is probably in his best interest to turn his life around and focus on the betterment of his music career.  Although Gucci’s exact release date has not yet been announced, the trap god will certainly receive a warm welcome when he is set free.  Here are tweets from fans who want Gucci man to be released from prison.

The status of the economy means absolutely nothing if Gucci Mane is still behind bars.  President Obama has spent the majority of his time in office being concerned with the fate of our country and other worldly issues, but this user suggests that the POTUS use the rest of his time in office to figuring out how to get good ole’ Gucci Guwop out of prison.

While the disease has proven to be less fatal in the United States, the anxiety surrounding Ebola is high.  However, when it really comes down to what’s important in the world, Gucci Mane’s freedom definitely supersedes everything, especially a deadly disease like Ebola.
