Has Eminem Ever Hosted SNL?

May 2024 · 3 minute read

Eminem may be known as one of the world’s favorite rappers, but that doesn’t mean that rapping is his only talent. He’s quite the funny man too, which has many people wondering if he’s ever been a host on the hit show Saturday Night Live.

Eminem has never hosted SNL, but that doesn’t mean that he’s never been on the show. Eminem’s been on Saturday Night Live several times, with his first appearance dating back to 1999.

Shortly after Eminem found fame he also started to find his footing in a variety of different types of performances. Along with many other artists of a similar caliber, Eminem has ended up on the show Saturday Night Live a total of seven different times. He has never hosted but has had several performances and impersonations that have left fans giggling.

Appearances on SNL

Eminem’s first appearance on SNL happened just a few years after his first album. On October 23, 1999, Eminem joined two other musical guests: Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre. His performance took place alongside the host of that episode, Norm Macdonald.

A year later, in 2000, Eminem again joined Dr. Dre to perform the song “Stan” and one of his most well-known anthems, “The Real Slim Shady.”

Back again in 2002, Eminem performed his hit song “Without Me.”

It seemed like no time at all had passed before the October 30, 2004 show where Eminem performed “Mosh” and another fan favorite, “Just Lose it. “

Saturday Night Live has always been known for featuring some of the world’s best artists. And for an episode in 2010, they welcomed two. In December of that year, Eminem joined Lil Wayne for their performance of “No Love.”

The show was hosted by Jeff Bridges and featured Lil Wayne’s first performance after being released from prison. This was also a special show for Eminem as it marked his fifth appearance, earning him a spot in the “Five-Timers Club.”

In 2013, Eminem again took to the stage of Saturday Night Live. He was joined by producer Rick Rubin and a six-piece band. Fans loved the performance, but many of them were left feeling a little let down based on some of their assumptions.

A few days prior to the show, Eminem appeared on a few promo clips with host Kerry Washington and although he was totally silent in the clips, he many fans predicted that he would end up being involved in one of the show’s skits.

There was no acting, but there was certainly some performing. Towards the end of the show, Eminem joined singer Skylar Grey to sing “Survival,” which was part of the soundtrack for “Call of Duty: Ghosts.”

Taking a few years off, Eminem was back at it in November, 2017 alongside Chance The Rapper as host. Eminem was again joined by Skylar Grey. The two performed three songs: ‘Walk on Water,’ ‘Stan,’ and ‘Love the Way You Lie.’

Impersonations on SNL

Eminem has also been impersonated a few times on SNL. Back in 2000, he was impersonated by Chris Parnell during a sketch called “Church Chat.”

In the sketch, “Eminem” joins “Anne Heche,” “Hillary Clinton” and a so-called “Church Lady” to discuss things like halloween, love, and tacos. In the end it’s not the impersonated Eminem who does a rap, but “Church Lady” herself.

Over a decade later, Taran Killam impersonated Eminem in 2011 during the show’s Weekend Update segment. He’s joined by an impersonated Lil Wayne to discuss their new Valentine’s Day song.

His last appearance on SNL was back in 2017. This has many people wondering if and when Eminem will be back on the show! We’re hoping for a performance, but are still keeping our fingers crossed that one of our favorite rappers will eventually get to host the show.
