Curtis Keene on Enduro Racing and Los Angeles Living

May 2024 · 2 minute read

The start of a new year is always an inspiring time and when it comes to starting something new, there’s no better time than when you’ve got a blank canvas in front of you. Usually, when you begin a new year you want to start over with some parts of yourself too, and one of the most frequent made ‘resolutions’ has to deal with exercise and getting active. Now, while the thought may make you roll your eyes at the thought of a gym, there are plenty of ways to get moving, and some of them are more out there than others.

One of the most thrilling ways to get active is on a bicycle. You can ride for fun, ride for sport, or ride in extremes. When it comes to extremes, Curtis Keene knows all about that, in fact, it’s not just his passion – it’s his career. Curtis rode bikes as a kid for fun, and after giving college a go and finding out it wasn’t exactly for him, taking up the family business as an electrician, and a trip to Downieville, CA with a friend, he found his true passion and chased it.

Downieville is known for its downhill mountain biking trails and when Curtis realized he had a knack for it, he moved into Enduro Biking, a competitive type of mountain biking, and he’s a champion.

We got to talk to Curtis about biking, his hometown, and his new video series in a fun interview recently.

We’re not exactly sure if we’re skilled enough to take part in Enduro Biking next time we visit California, but we do plan to check out some of Curtis’ favorite spots and maybe we’ll take bikes out on our own trip – just not down mountains quite yet.
