TikTok has taken other-worldly makeup to the next level with its latest beauty trend: angelic makeup. Think celestially sheeny skin, delicately flushed cherub cheeks and silky sparkling eyelids that truly look like heaven. Angel Gabriel himself would be proud
Of course, the timing couldn't be better. December officially marked the start of party season and angel makeup is definitely one way to lean into the holiday. If you'd rather leave your nativity plays and tinsel headbands behind you, the trend offers an ethereal way to wear your makeup that's perfect for any party plans you've got marked in your diary.
The glitz finish, which looks like it's been lit by starlight, gets its roots from the hugely popular #douyinmakeup originating from China, which has cemented the popularity of an ultra dewy and fresh aesthetic.
One creator, @jellybean_xxdd has been scattering her insta grid with inspo for the past couple of years with dreamy #motd's posted regularly. Her glitter eyeshadow, strobe blusher and dewy rosebud lips are all key features of the angelic makeup look.
She even shared the palette and placement she used to create the most delicately sheeny eyeshadow and skin (swipe along). Her MVP is the Natasha Denona Glam Palette – which we're adding to our Christmas wish list asap – for achieving a soft-focus glow. And making the eyeshadows her own, she swept the inner corner colour across her entire lid for an upgraded take on halo eyeshadow.
Over on TikTok, creator @hayleybui has helped to put the look on the map, creating her own rendition using the Colour Pop Cosmetics Blush in Babycakes across her cheeks, nose and around her eyes. She applied Fenty Beauty's How Many Carats highlighter across the tops of her cheekbones, down her nose and on her eyelids before adding extra glitz with Urban Decay's Heavy Metal Glitter Liner. For an angelic flutter, she used the Kiss Lashes in Royal Silk and to give her lips a fresh glaze, she applied the Kylie Cosmetics Lipgloss in Emerald City, but Rihanna's Gloss Bomb would also do the trick.
Creator @makeuponriri who also tried the look out, explained the details behind the look. She started by blending a dusty rose colour all over her lid, explaining “usually I blend my eyeshadow a bit outwards to get that cat-eye effect, but today we're gonna keep it rounded, to keep that more angelic look. We're also adding a little on the lower lash line area.” She applied a taupe colour lightly on the “outer V” of her eye before taking a sparkling champagne on a fluffy blush and tapping it gently all over hid lid. For an extra hit of glitz she applied the Lottie London Eye Foil in Shady in a V shape from her mid-crease, to the inner corner of her eye and halfway back along the lower lash line, before blending it out. To keep it soft, she used a brown liquid liner to create a wing (v angelic) and a nude crayon liner along her waterline. She applied her blush along her cheeks, then took a little right up to under the middle of her eye, she blended some across the bridge of her nose and on her temples. She finished by applying highlighter to the high points of her face and a slick of gloss on her lips.
And creator @frishtaxx stuck to liquid textures such as Charlotte Tilbury's Flawless Filter and Beauty Light Wand blusher to create her look.
So, for a glowy, ethereal party-ready vibe, we've got angelic makeup locked and loaded.
